An Ava man is in jail after incidents at the Ava Middle School open house and the Ava High School on August 16, where he allegedly assaulted a male student.
According to Douglas County Sheriff Chris Degase, parents, teachers and administrators at the Ava Middle School open house were made uncomfortable when 37-year-old Michael Bagley began interacting with children who are not his as well as inappropriately touching teachers. Sheriff Degase advised Bagley to leave school property and Bagley complied.
Later in the day, Sheriff Degase responded to a possible altercation in the parking lot of Ava High School where he found Bagley verbally engaging a faculty member.
Sheriff Degase, for the second time that day, advised Bagley to leave school property. Shortly after, a male student came forward and said he had been assaulted.
Members of the Douglas County Sheriff's Department and the Ava Police Department went to Bagley's residence in the area of South 5 Highway and County Road 301 where Bagley refused to come out of his home and, at one point, waved a gun in the direction of the officers.
Bagley was subdued and placed in the back of a police cruiser. Before leaving the scene, Bagley kicked out the window of the patrol car.
Once incarcerated, Bagley removed the light fixture and broke the light bulb in his holding cell.
Bagley is charged with the following felonies: assault while on school property, unlawful use of a weapon, resisting arrest, damage to jail property and armed criminal action. Bagley is also charged with misdemeanor assault and property damage.
Bagley is being held on $35,000 bond. The conditions of the bond say Bagley cannot be on the property of Ava Schools and he cannot make contact with the juvenile victim.
