SPRINGFIELD, Mo. (AP) A Wisconsin man waived his right to a jury trial in the stabbing death of his Missouri girlfriend’s mother.

Nicholas Godejohn, of Big Bend, Wisconsin, announced his decision during a hearing Tuesday in Greene County. He is charged with first-degree murder and armed criminal action in the June 2015 death of Dee Dee Blanchard at her home in Springfield. Authorities says Godejohn killed the woman so he and her daughter, Gypsy Blanchard, could be together.

KYTV reports Godejohn’s trial has been rescheduled to February 2017 so a judge can hear testimony about Godejohn’s mental capacity.

Gypsy Blanchard has pleaded guilty to second-degree murder and was sentenced to 10 years in prison.

Prosecutors say the Blanchards fooled people into believing Gypsy Blanchard was disabled to raise money.
