COLUMBIA, Mo. (AP) Missouri’s Republican Gov.-elect Eric Greitens is starting his transition to power.

Greitens’ adviser Austin Chambers said Friday that the goal is to have a team assembled by next week to help him assume office.

He’ll succeed Democratic Gov. Jay Nixon in January. Greitens met with Nixon and Republican Senate leaders on Thursday. Chambers says he’s also started meeting with budget officials.

Greitens and his family plan to move from suburban St. Louis to the governor’s mansion in Jefferson City. Chambers says he’ll set up an office in the capital during his transition.

The governor elect also faces choosing new department heads and others to help him run state government.

Chambers says former House Speaker and U.S. Attorney Catherine Hanaway is offering help. She lost to Greitens during a Republican primary.
