
Another Mountain Home resident has fallen victim to a phone scam in which the caller says a relative is in jail and needs money. According to an incident report from the Baxter County Sheriff’s Office, a person by the name of Miriam Lopez, claiming to be from the New Jersey-Jersey City public defenders office, called a Mountain Home man and said his son had been arrested and needed immediate cash. The man couldn’t get in touch with his son and couldn’t get a hold of him. He went to Wal-Mart on two seperate occasion and sent moneygram’s in excess of $2,400.
Baxter County Sheriff John Montgomery says this is a regular scam in the area and hopes the public will not be duped.

He says continue to try to reach the alleged relative in jail and contact the specific jail directly.
