TULSA, Okla. (AP) – Transportation officials in Arkansas and Oklahoma are warning drivers to use extra caution on state roads and bridges as crews continue cleaning up after a winter storm pushed through the area.
Frigid temperatures in both states early Saturday caused snow and ice left by the storm to refreeze. Slickened roads and bridges also remained potentially hazardous.
The Oklahoma Department of Transportation says Interstates 35 and 40 in central Oklahoma remained hazardous Saturday morning. Forecasters in Little Rock warned drivers to be alert on secondary roads that may not have been treated.
Friday’s winter storm pushed into the Southern Plains and dropped several inches of snow, snarled traffic and closed schools and government offices.
Forecasters say conditions are expected to improve throughout the day as temperatures slowly climb back above freezing.
