Gassville man blows second chance, steals again

A Gassville man was given a second chance slightly more than a year ago, but apparently blew it when he allegedly took more property — and from the same victim.

The Baxter County Sheriff’s Office received a complaint early last month from a victim that a rifle he owned had been stolen from his residence sometime around mid-November 2015. At the time of the 2015 theft, evidence was developed by the Gassville Police Department that the .22 caliber lever action rifle belonging to the victim had allegedly been pawned by 39-year-old Jimmy Cagle at a Flippin gun and pawnshop.

The victim told investigators that Cagle had worked for him at one point and had access to his residence and the firearm.

According to court records, Cagle admitted to taking the rifle and the victim was able to get the firearm back from the Flippin business.

The victim said he did not want to press charges against Cagle at that time of the 2015 theft on the condition that Cagle not be involved in any other criminal activity.

In early December last year, the same victim made a report to Gassville police that a number of items were missing from his residence, including a nail gun, a chainsaw and a power paint sprayer. The items were found to have allegedly been pawned by Cagle at different times between July and October last year. According to court records, Cagle admitted to a Gassville police officer that he had taken the nail gun and chainsaw from the victim, but said he did not take the paint sprayer.

The second theft is being prosecuted in District Court in Gassville. However, Cagle is now charged with theft of property for allegedly taking the rifle in November 2015 and that case will be on the Baxter County Circuit Court criminal docket.

Cagle is free on $3,500 bond.
