Representative Speaks says she had nothing to do with recent mailer

Local Arkansas State Representative Nelda Speaks says she wants to clear the air concerning a flyer, many area residents received over the weekend, from the Arkansas Chapter of Americans for Prosperity. The letter asks to support Education Savings Accounts for children and, along with her picture, asks to contact Speaks regarding the issue.
Speaks says it was poorly written and was perceived by some as a solicitation for money to support an Education Savings Account plan, without mentioning any specific proposal at the state legislature.

When Speaks evaluated the letter further, she noticed it doesn’t mention a specific solicitation from her.

The mailer does refer to an Educational Savings Account. House Bill 1222, of which District 93’s Jim Dotson is the lead sponsor, is entitled “An Act to Establish the Arkansas Parental Empowerment for Education Choice Act of 2017”. The only local co-sponsor is District 64’s Representative John Payton.
Arkansas Americans for Prosperity’s website says they are in support of the measure.
Speaks says she has been in touch with David Ray, the State Director for the Arkansas chapter and he apologized, saying he thought the letter was clear.
