Plans to reopen Tarkio College progressing

TARKIO, Mo. (AP) – Supporters of a plan to reopen Tarkio College are another step closer to their goal.
The St. Joseph News-Press reports administrators said Friday the Missouri Department of Higher Education will conduct an on-site campus visit in early April.
That visit is part of a process for the college to be certified as a two-year institution of higher education.
Officials are currently trying to hire faculty, and want to start classes in the fall of 2017.
Last month, the college received a certificate of occupancy for Thompson Hall, which was the library and learning center when the college closed in 1992.
The school initially would offer associate's programs in general studies, agricultural management and public service, likely to commuter students.
Current plans don't include reopening the school's five dormitories.
