
As the U. S. Congress now begins debate on the American Health Care Act, the recently introduced plan from the Trump Administration to replace ObamaCare, Baxter Regional Medical Center CEO Ron Peterson says it is still too early to know of the impact the new plan may have on the hospital.

Peterson calls the new plan a good starting point, especially since no adjustments had been made to the Affordable Care Act, commonly called ObamaCare.

The American Medical Association, the largest group of doctors in the United States, opposes the bill saying, as drafted, it would result in millions of Americans losing coverage and benefits. Additionally, the AMA says replacing income based premium subsidies with age based tax credits, the AHCA will make coverage more expensive, if not out of reach, for poor and sick Americans.
One of the goals of the Affordable Care Act was to insure all Americans had access to quality health care through insurance. Peterson questions whether that is possible.
