Jimmy Page RecordsAs rock fans continue to wait for new music from Jimmy Page, the Led Zeppelin guitarist has announced plans for a special archival release that will be available exclusively through his official website. Page is issuing a collection of 12 previously unreleased demos recorded in 1961 by the British rock ‘n’ roll group Chris Farlowe & the Thunderbirds that marked the first official music project produced by Jimmy.
The album, titled The Beginning…, can be pre-ordered now at JimmyPage.com and will be available on April 30 via Page’s own label. The release includes a 175-gram vinyl LP, a CD, liner notes by Page and Farlowe, and a personal photo of Chris. A standard version is priced at 19.61 pounds, or about $24, while a deluxe edition signed by both Page and Farlowe will run you 196.10 pounds, or about $238.
The Beginning… includes covers of well-known rock ‘n’ roll and soul songs including “What’d I Say,” “Let the Good Times Roll,” “Kansas City,” “Matchbox” and “Money.” You can check out Farlowe & the Thunderbirds’ version of Barrett Strong‘s “Money” now at Page’s SoundCloud page.
The recordings on the album also were the first made by Farlowe, who went on to score a chart-topping U.K. single in 1966 with a cover of The Rolling Stones‘ “Out of Time.” In addition, the singer lent his talents to a pair of other Page projects — the 1982 Death Wish II soundtrack and Jimmy’s 1988 solo album Outrider.
