A public hearing in Marion County is scheduled for Tuesday evening at 6 in the Marion County Courthouse. The purpose of the hearing is to identify and prioritize the needs of the county, which is considering applying to the Arkansas Economic Development Commission for a Community and Economic Development Program Grant.

The State of Arkansas receives federal funds that are administered by the AEDC and are made available to cities and counties according to need. Funds may be used for housing rehabilitation, community facilities or economic development. However, objectives must be met including providing benefit to low and moderate income families; prevention of slum or blight; and other community needs which pose a serious, immediate threat to the health or welfare of the community where no other funding is available to meet such needs.

The meeting is open to all residents of Marion County and the county will provide technical assistance in developing proposals by groups representing low and moderate income individuals.
