BRMC celebrates nurses and employees, gives service awards

A celebration of nurses began Saturday across the nation. Nurses week is observed each year from May 6th through May 12th and recognizes the contributions nurses make to improve the health of the nation. As part of the celebration Baxter Regional Medical Center combined Nurses Week last week with employee appreciation this week to honor hospital employees and volunteers. Two nurses, JoAnna Dean and Beverly Crabb in particular, were recognized by their co-workers as outstanding employees.Chief Nursing Officer Shannon Nachtigal says last week was full of activities and continues through the rest of this week.

The grand finale of the awards ceremony is the presentation of the Baxter Choice Awards. This is the third year for the ceremony in which a Servant’s Heart Award is given. Nachtigal says the award is for the nurse who captures the essence of the nursing profession physically, mentally, spiritually and emotionally.

JoAnna Dean says when she heard she was a recipient she was surprised and grateful.

Beverely Crabb says she was surprised as well. She doesn’t feel like she does anything different than the rest of the staff because she feels like the staff and patients are part of a family. For her the award reception was emotional.

Activities for the rest of this week include Wellness Wednesday with free fruit for employees and volunteers, the BRMC Olympics, a cookout and an outdoor movie is scheduled for Friday.
