She reported Lane had a handgun in his possession when they had met and refused to let her have her things. Lane allegedly threw rocks at the woman and the other person accompanying her. The woman was apparently able to take a photograph on her cell phone showing Lane to be in possession of the firearm.
Deputies ran a background check on Lane in the National Crime Information Center (NCIC) database and found he had previously been convicted of felony crimes in both Oregon County, Missouri and Ozark County, Missouri. The convictions make it illegal for him to possess firearms in the State of Arkansas.
As deputies were driving toward his house, they heard a gunshot. On arrival they ordered him out of the house and he was taken into custody without further incident. He showed deputies the location of the firearm and .45 caliber handgun was taken into evidence.
Montgomery says Lane stated he fired a round into the woods, in the opposite direction from the deputies, as a warning because he thought other persons were coming to residence to harm him. There was no evidence found to indicate he had actually fired in the direction of the deputies.
Lane is scheduled to appear in Circuit Court.
