Saturday’s baseball, softball results

Viola’s baseball team was eliminated from the Class 1A State Tournament Saturday at Woodlawn High School in Rison. The Longhorns lost to Dierks 13-2.

In other high school baseball, a few area teams began district play Saturday.
Gainesville won its opener in the Class 2, District 10 Tournament at Mansfield. The Bulldogs shut out Seymour 2-0. Gainesville improves to 9-12 on the season, and they’ll return to Mansfield Monday to face the host and top-seeded Lions in the semifinals.
Two area schools faced each other on the opening day of the Class 5, District 11 Tournament at Nixa. West Plains’ season came to an end as they fell to Branson 10-0. The Zizzers’ final record is 9-10. The Pirates are 14-10, and they’ll take on the number one seed from Springfield Kickapoo in Monday’s semifinals.
Hollister was one and done as they began hosting the Class 4, District 11 Tournament. The Tigers were edged out Springfield Catholic 8-7. Hollister’s season ends at 13-13.

Calico Rock’s softball team is one win away from a trip to Fayetteville next weekend. The Lady Pirates squeaked by Woodlawn 4-3 in the quarterfinals of the Class 1A State Tournament at Pine Bluff Regional Park. Calico Rock will advance to the semifinals Monday as they will be paired with Scranton.
