Credit: Bill BernsteinWith Foreigner out on the road this year celebrating its 40th anniversary, comes word that a new jukebox musical showcasing the band’s classic songs will premiere in 2018 in Calgary, Canada. The production, aptly titled Juke Box Hero, is based on a screenplay written by the duo Dick Clement and Ian La Frenais, whose many credits include the films The Commitments and Across the Universe.
The show will tell a coming-of-age story set to Foreigner’s music.
“I never could have imagined when I set out to create Foreigner forty years ago, that we’d still be touring around the world and performing the music we love all these years later,” says founding Foreigner guitarist and songwriter Mick Jones. “I am so proud that these songs will now be reinterpreted for stage, and am honored by the team that is helping bring this music to life.”
Meanwhile, the veteran rockers have added a series of fall Canadian headlining shows to their 40th anniversary tour. The 10-date outing kicks off October 11 in Calgary and run through an October 22 show in Abbotsford, British Columbia.
“I had so many great times with Foreigner in Canada and I look forward to bringing the band back here for our 40th anniversary tour.” says Jones, adding, “I’m thrilled that Canada will see the premiere of our brand-new musical, Juke Box Hero, in 2018.”
The Canadian leg will take place after Foreigner’s previously reported North American summer tour with Cheap Trick and Jason Bonham’s Led Zeppelin Experience winds down. That trek gets underway July 11 in Syracuse, New York, and is mapped out through a September 9 concert in Auburn, Washington. Foreigner currently is touring Europe through early June.
