A pedestrian was hit and killed Thursday evening in a one-vehicle accident in Taney County. Fifty-year-old Sammy Reed of Ridgedale was pronounced dead by Taney County Assistant Coroner Tony Mullen at the scene in Ridgedale.
According to the Missouri State Highway Patrole, 55-year-old Stephen Ortmann of Omaha was traveling southbound on U.S. Highway 65 near the state line when Reed ran into the pickup truck’s path. Reed’s death is the 40th fatality reported by the Highway Patrol’s Troop D for 2017.
Ortmann was not injured in the 9:48 p.m. accident. His truck had minor damage.
