The Baxter County Airport Commission, with four of its seven members present, heard an update on its master plan from Grimes and Associates Engineering representative Dan Clinton. The presentation came during Monday’s commission meeting.

At the urging of the Federal Aviation Administration, the commission discussed forming a 10-12 member technical committee for submitting input into the master plan. Commissioner Greg Mills was designated to coordinate the development of the committee.

The commission, with members Cameron Davis, Nick Goodrich and Susan Stockton absent, discussed the airport improvement plan for next year that includes replacing the taxiway lights with LED fixtures.

In other discussion, the commission learned the grant for a corporate hangar is still pending with the Arkansas Department of Aeronautics. The commission approved the construction of the corporate hangar with a price tag of $600,000 at its May meeting. The proposal was made on behalf of a subsidiary of Auto Services Company, Incorporated for construction of an approximately 12,000-square-foot hangar.

The commission also discussed the need to light the power poles near the airport.

Baxter County Judge Mickey Pendergrass told the commission he was working to secure highway signs and other changes made in relation to the airport’s correct name, which has reverted to Baxter County Airport.

In comments from the audience, Charlie Hooper asked for resignations of commissioners Rob Finley, Mark Carney and Greg Mills, citing a conflict with the action taken in May approving construction of the corporate hangar. Hooper also questioned the status of payment for the engineering costs of the hangar project to Grimes and Associates Engineering. No action was taken on Hooper’s comments.
