The City of Gainesville has awarded a contract to MLH of Gainesville to demolish the remains of the Gainesville Volunteer Fire Department building at Highways 160 and Highway 5 North. The Ozark County Times reports the contract award followed a solicitation for bids. The building was heavily damaged by the historic flooding of late April. Then, a month later, the station was destroyed in a fire suspected to have started in a charging unit connected to a vehicle parked in the building’s truck bay.

MLH owner Martie Hambelton said Monday he expects to have the site cleared before Hootin an Hollarin, which begins Sept. 21.
