Mark Cunningham/MLB Photos via Getty Images(NEW YORK) — Detroit Tigers first baseman Miguel Cabrera has been suspended for seven games and New York Yankees catcher Gary Sanchez for four games after Thursday’s bench-clearing incidents, according to Major League Baseball.
The MLB suspended Cabrera for inciting the first bench-clearing incident and for fighting. Sanchez was also suspended for fighting and throwing punches.
Among others who received discipline by the MLB: Tigers pitcher Alex Wilson who was handed a four-game suspension for intentionally throwing a pitch at the Yankees’ Todd Frazier, Yankees catcher Austin Romine who was suspended for two games for fighting, and TIgers manager Brad Ausman who received a one-game suspension for the intentional actions of Wilson while warnings were in place.
All five received fines of an undisclosed amount, the MLB said. Yankees manager Joe Girardi, Yankees bench coach/acting manager Rob Thomson, Yankees outfielder Brett Gardner, Yankees pitcher Tommy Kahnle, and Tigers shortstop José Iglesias were also fined. And because they entered the field while being on the disabled list, the MLB said Yankees first baseman Garrett Cooper and outfielder Clint Frazier were handed fines.
