The simple, polite gesture of two young people opening a door for Pam and Rick Fairlamb contributed to the retired couple making multiple gifts to Baxter Regional Medical Center, including the latest for the hospital’s acute rehab gym. The announcement of the Fairlambs’ latest gift came this week as part of a million dollar campaign to remodel the hospital’s acute inpatient rehabilitation unit.

At the time of the campaign kickoff in late June, hospital officials said total pledges for the rehab unit project had reached $800,000.

Rick Fairlamb says he and Pam retired to the Twin Lakes area about 20 years ago and quickly recognized the spirit of Mountain Home. They soon discovered polite young people still open doors for others like them, and it was the community spirit they knew they wanted to foster and support.

The Fairlamb name is familiar to BRMC officials and patients, with a number of previous gifts, including the naming of the medical center’s Senior Health Clinic. The couple has been volunteering at the hospital for over seven years, an avenue Pam says has provided inspiration for their gifts.

Rick Fairlamb says through the couple’s volunteer service, they saw many areas of the hospital that are state-of-the-art, and, in turn, they saw opportunities to keep them at that level.

Dr. Greg Elders, Medical Director for the rehab unit, says Mountain Home is lucky to have BRMC supporting the rehab unit.

The acute rehab unit has a daily census of 18 patients, with an average stay of two weeks. It opened over 20 years ago and has not had an upgrade since a remodel in 1999.
