Voters in Mountain Home and Baxter County went to the polls in a special election today to decide the public safety measures.
Early and absentee votes:
Mountain Home voters 650 in favor and 121 against levying a 3/8 percent sales and use tax that will benefit the city’s fire and police departments.
Voters countywide 1267 in favor and 404 against the one cent sales and use tax for eight months beginning March 1, 2018. Net proceeds from the tax will be to expand the Baxter County Detention Center, as well as furnish and equip the new portion, and provide for the operation and maintenance of the jail.
Voters countywide 1217 in favor and 444 against a one-quarter cent sales and use tax beginning November 1, 2018, following the expiration of the one cent sales and use tax. The one-quarter cent tax will be ongoing.
