(AP) – Voters in Conway have approved a sales tax increase to pay
for street improvements. In Tuesday’s special election, voters approved increasing the city’s sales and use tax rate to 9.125 percent. Officials say the tax increase will generate about $5.1 million annually to improve city streets.

The tax increase will expire March 31, 2023.

The Log Cabin Democrat reports that nearly 59 percent of voters supported the measure. Mayor Bart Castleberry says the money will go toward repairing existing streets and not for constructing new roads.

The city will begin receiving the funds in June 2018.
