ABC Radio For her first Artist in Residence concert at the Country Music Hall of Fame, Miranda Lambert focused on the “ones that got away,” delivering a career-spanning retrospective of songs she loves, but has rarely performed.

The reigning CMA and ACM Female Vocalist of the Year started with three songs from her 2005 debut, Kerosene, including a guest appearance by her dad on the song they wrote together, “Greyhound Bound for Nowhere.”

Miranda’s repeatedly said if you want to know about her life, all you have to do is listen to her music, and by the time she got to her second record, Crazy Ex-Girlfriend, things got personal, as she introduced the track “Desperation.”

“I wrote it by myself when I was like — I don’t know — 21 and heartbroke,” she told the capacity crowd in the CMA Theater. “Still heartbroke to this day, that’s how it goes.”

“But I was foreshadowing then. I’m foreshadowing now for the next ten years I guess,” she added, as the audience laughed.

Miranda revealed “A Soft Place to Fall” was the first song she ever sang in public, as she brought out Allison Moorer to play her Oscar-nominated composition from The Horse Whisperer.

Things got personal again as the two introduced “Oklahoma Sky,” Allison’s song that Miranda recorded on Four the Record.

“She sent me this song, because… It’s a long story,” Miranda said. “We’ve been through some men since then…”

Of note: Miranda’s ex-husband, Blake Shelton is from Oklahoma.

Miranda returns to the Hall next week for a second and final Artist in Residence concert. Keeping with tradition, the night will have an all-new theme and a different lineup of special guests.
