BMLGFlorida Georgia Line‘s latest hit, “Simple,” was born out of a busy time for the duo, as a reminder to themselves to slow down and get back to the basics.

“”I think everything was going 100 miles an hour, we were on the road,” Tyler Hubbard recalls, “and I remember last year was kind of a whirlwind.”

“And I think for us,” he goes on, “we just have to — probably on a weekly basis — remind ourselves… ‘Alright, let’s take a few days off, let’s recharge, let’s get re-grounded if you will, get re-balanced.'”

For Tyler, that means sometimes leaving his phone behind, but Brian Kelley takes another approach.

“For BK, that’s hanging out at their place at the beach.” Tyler says. “I mean, we got different things that kinda recharge us…

“We also love to work so hard,” he admits, “that sometimes we have to force ourselves to take a day off…”

In fact, Tyler says he and his wife Hayley have banned phones at the table.

“We like to not have our cellphones with us during meals,” he explains. “So it’s just that little hour or…two…throughout the day that we’re eating, we know that we’re gonna simplify things and get back to basics. We’re not gonna have distractions, we’re gonna be present and be in the moment.”

In today’s fast-paced world, Tyler believes it’s important for us all to find our own way to unplug.

“We’re all living in a world where everything’s super-fast and super-digital and there’s tons of distractions everywhere,” he observes. “So I think it’s something now we have to be consciously aware of, and make sure we find time and make time for ourselves.”

“Simple” is the lead single from FGL’s forthcoming follow-up to Dig Your Roots.
