Credit: Rob DeMartinSharp-eyed Bruce Springsteen fans who attended a free screening of the Springsteen on Broadway Netflix special Sunday night in West Long Branch, New Jersey got to see the Boss both on the big screen and in the audience.
The Asbury Park Press reports that Bruce entered the Pollak Theatre at Monmouth University about 10 minutes into the screening and sat toward the back of the venue, next to his co-manager Barbara Carr and the film’s director, Thom Zimny, who was on hand to introduce the flick.
“He was wearing a baseball hat and he came in after it started, in the dark,” one man who attended the event told the newspaper. After the film ended, Bruce quickly left the theater through a back door.
Monmouth University and the Bruce Springsteen Archives and Center for American Music, which is located on the school’s campus, hosted the screening.
It wasn’t the first time Springsteen had been in the theater, either. In January of 2017, he took part in a Q&A event with Grammy Museum executive Bob Santelli, and in September of that year, he played two special rehearsals for his Springsteen on Broadway stage show.
Springsteen on Broadway ran from October 2017 to December 2018 at the Walter Kerr Theatre in New York City. The Netflix special debuted on December 16, just hours after his final performance ended. A companion soundtrack album to the special was released on December 14.
