Bakersfield splits in Cabool Classic semifinals

Bakersfield’s basketball teams ended up with a split Tuesday in the semifinals of the Cabool Classic.
The Lions advanced to the boys’ title game by topping Laquey 46-42. Bakersfield will play for the championship Friday evening.
Bakersfield’s girls had a different result as they lost to Koshkonong 50-34. The Lady Lions will face the host Lady Bulldogs on Friday for third place.

The Mammoth Spring girls dominated their opener in the Thayer Winter Classic as they pounded Houston 72-34. Stephine Henry was the Lady Bears’ top scorer with 27 points, Terra Godwin finished with 18, and Lauren Mitchell ended up with 12. Mammoth Spring’s record improves to 11-10, and they’ll take on the host Lady Bobcats on Thursday.

Mammoth Spring’s boys also won their first game in the Liberty Invitational Varsity Tournament at Mountain View, Missouri, with a 58-46 decision over Winona. Cole Young paced the Bears with 16 points, and Alex Mero added 14. Mammoth Spring is now 15-10 on the season, and they’ll meet Eminence Friday in the semifinals.

The Cotter High School teams had mixed results at Yellville-Summit.
The Lady Warriors beat the Lady Panthers 54-25. Cotter was led by Samantha Sanchez, and Kaylee Crownover chipped in 13.
Cotter was not as fortunate in the boys’ contest. The Warriors fell to Yellville-Summit 57-48.

Both of Flippin’s high school squads were able to invoke the mercy rule as they welcomed Haas Hall Academy from Fayetteville. The Lady Bobcats more than doubled up the Lady Mastiffs 81-40. Flippin’s boys also routed Haas Hall 78-45.

The Bruno-Pyatt boys had a rough outing on their home floor. The Patriots lost to Omaha 70-41.

Dora’s boys were able to pick up another road victory. The Falcons defeated Mountain Grove 66-54.

Viola was able to sweep its high school games at Western Grove. The boys’ game ended with the Longhorns squeaking by the Warriors 64-62. Viola also took the girls’ contest 52-27.

The Salem boys won a low-scoring affair in Lake City. The Greyhounds edged out Riverside by a final of 31-28.

Calico Rock rock picked up one win as they hosted Izard County for three games.
The senior boys’ game featured a pair of teams in the Class 1A top five as the fourth-ranked Pirates fell to the top-ranked Cougars 78-64. Justus Cooper was Izard County’s leading scorer with 23 points, Caleb Faulkner had 18, Coby Everett finished with 15, and Dylan Tharp added 14. Calico Rock falls to 19-5 overall and 10-2 in the 1A-2. The Cougars are now 24-4 and 11-0.
Calico Rock also lost the senior girls’ contest to Izard County 37-35. Bethany Simmons led the Lady Cougars with 11 points. Izard County improves to 16-10 on the year and 7-4 in the conference.
The evening began with Calico Rock’s junior boys defeating Izard County 33-27. The Junior Cougars were led by Gunner Gleghorn with 19 points. Izard County drops to 8-5 on the season.

It was a tough night at home for the St. Joe boys. The Wildcats ended up falling to Lead Hill 78-48.

Marshall swept a pair of high school games at Green Forest. The Bobcats won the boys’ game over the Tigers 67-49. Marshall also got past Green Forest 54-47 in the girls’ contest.

Timbo picked up two high school victories at home over Guy-Perkins. The Tigers dominated the boys’ game as they trounced the Thunderbirds 85-65. In the girls’ game, Timbo came away with a 59-48 win over Guy-Perkins.

Rural Special had mixed results with West Side Tuesday at Greers Ferry. The Lady Rebels topped the Lady Eagles 57-49. The boys’ game had a different result as Rural Special fell to West Side 70-64.

Bergman split its high school games with Valley Springs at the Panther Palace. The Panthers won the boys’ game over the Tigers 52-45. Bergman’s girls were not as fortunate as they lost to Valley Springs 52-43.

Jasper’s boys had a good night in Fayetteville. The Pirates defeated the New School by a score of 65-55.

Mountain Home Christian Academy came away with a three-game sweep at home over Riverview Christian.
The Eagles came from behind in the varsity boys’ game to get the 66-55 victory. Caleb Spray was Mountain Home Christian’s top scorer with 25 points, Cooper Long had 23, and Matt Woods chipped in ten.
Mountain Home Christian beat up on Riverview Christian 55-19 in the varsity girls’ contest. Naomi Spray paced the Lady Eagles with 18 points, and Alea Smeltzer scored 15.
The night started with the 14-and-under boys’ game as Mountain Home Christian topped Riverview Christian 48-35. The 14-and-under Eagles were led by Gideon Spray with 14 points, Jordan Woods finished with 13, and Landon Jines ended up with 12.
Mountain Home Christian Academy will host Ozark Christian Academy on Friday for Homecoming.
