Basketball dominates local Thursday schedule

Basketball makes up the local Thursday schedule.

In high school girls’ action, Bakersfield hosts Mountain View-Liberty, Gainesville travels to Seymour, and Dora entertains Summersville.

Mountain Home’s junior varsity boys will be just a few miles from campus as they play at Mountain Home Christian Academy. Tip-off is scheduled for 7:30.

Several junior high teams will be in district tournament action.

Both of Mountain Home’s teams will be in Jonesboro for the Northeast Arkansas District Tournament. The Junior Lady Bombers will face West Memphis East at 4 p.m. at Annie Camp Junior High School, and the Mountain Home boys take on West Memphis Wonder at 5:20 at Douglas MacArthur Junior High School.

The semifinals of the 2A-1 Junior District Tournament will be held at Decatur. On the girls’ side, Flippin and Yellville-Summit tip off at 4:00, and top-seeded Cotter will play at 6:00 against the winner of Wednesday’s game between Eureka Springs and Decatur. On the boys’ bracket, Cotter will be paired with Flippin at 5:00, and top-seeded Yellville-Summit faces either Eureka Springs or Decatur at 7:00.

The 1A-2 Junior District Tournament will hold its semifinal round at Omaha. In the girls’ games, top-seeded Viola and Izard County will get underway at 4:00, and Norfork takes on Western Grove at 6:30. In boys’ action, top-seeded Calico Rock plays Izard County at 5:15, and Norfork will be matched up with Omaha at 7:45.

Both Mammoth Spring teams enter the 1A-3 Junior District Tournament at Maynard as the number one seed. In the semifinals, the Junior Lady Bears go up against Armorel at 4:30, the Mammoth Spring boys will play the winner of Monday’s game between Ridgefield Christian and Armorel.

Both of Jasper’s teams will compete in the semifinals of the 1A-1 Junior District Tournament at Kingston. The Junior Lady Pirates will face Alpena at 4:00, and the Jasper boys take on the New School at 5:15.
