Alliance for Young Artists, Writers recognizes MHHS student’s work

The work of Mountain Home High School student Shelbie Kelly has been recognized by the Region-at-Large program of the 2018 Scholastic Art and Writing Awards. The awards are presented by the Alliance for Young Artists and Writers.Kelly received a Gold Key award for her science fiction/fantasy work titled The Twentieth Realm.

Her award letter notes for 96 years the Scholastic Awards have recognized some of America’s most celebrated writers when they were teenagers. Alumni include Sylvia Plath, Donald Barthelme, Joyce Carol Oates, Stephen King, Truman Capote and Marc Brown.

This year, nearly 340,000 works were submitted to the Scholastic Art and Writing Awards.

Kelly’s work was adjudicated by a panel of creative professionals and was selected as the most outstanding work submitting in her region. Gold Key-awarded works will advance to national judging in New York City.
