Report: Red Sox, Xander Bogaerts finalizing seven-year extension

Allen Kee / ESPN Images(BOSTON) — The Boston Red Sox are reportedly close to finalizing an extension to Xander Bogaerts’ contract.

Sources tell ESPN the reworked deal would be for seven years and worth $132 million.

Per the terms of the contract, the 26-year-old shortstop will be able to exercise an opt-out clause after the 2022 season. Sources also tell ESPN the deal includes a team vesting option for 2026, which is worth an additional $20 million.

Last season, Bogaerts hit .288 with 23 home runs and 103 RBIs.
