Kinks guitarist Dave Davies kicks off his first U.S. solo tour in about year tonight in Collingswood, New Jersey. The nine-date trek, which will stop at venues in the Northeast and Midwest, is plotted out through an April 21 show in Chicago.

The 72-year-old Rock & Roll Hall of Famer tells ABC Radio that he’s looking forward to the tour, which he calls “a nice little bunch of shows,” while noting that at his age, he prefers doing shorter road trips.

Davies says his set for the tour will feature “a lot of the usual suspects,” including some classic Kinks songs, as well as some gems from his solo career.

Dave reveals that he’s also planning to add a song or two from his 2018 archival album, Decade, which features previously unreleased material that he recorded throughout the 1970s.

“I’m trying to do [Decade‘s lead track,] ‘Cradle to the Grave,’ because it’s been getting a lot of feedback,” he says. “But, of course, I was 30 years younger when I [recorded it]. You know, I’m gonna have to sing it in a…lower key.”

As he’s done on his last few tours, Davies will be playing as a trio on this trek, with accompaniment from Smithereens drummer Dennis Diken and his longtime collaborator, David Nolte, handling bass, keyboards and backing vocals.

Dave says he loves playing with Diken and Nolte, and also enjoys performing as a three-piece outfit.

“It’s harder work, but the groove’s different and the feel’s different,” Davies maintains. “More space, and you can concentrate a bit better on vocals.” (AUDIO IS ABC 1-ON-1)
