Firefighters in Searcy County were kept busy Tuesday afternoon with multiple fires started by hot coal dust blowing off a truck driving along U.S. Highway 65. KYTV/KSPR reports the truck picked up a load of charcoal dust in Oxley. The driver did not know there were still hot spots in the dust.
As the truck drove along Highway 65 from Leslie to Western Grove, the dust was blowing out and starting fires. Most of the fires were small grass fires, and no structures were burned. Searcy County Sheriff Kenny Cassell says every fire department in the county had to be called out to extinguish the 30 to 40 fires.
No injuries were reported.
