Gainesville among area teams falling; Dora wins district title

The Gainesville High School baseball team watched its season come to an end at Seymour. The Bulldogs fell to Mansfield 13-0 in the semifinals of the Class 2, District 5 Tournament. Gainesville’s final record is 10-12.

Dora secured a state tournament bid on its home field. The Falcons won the championship of the Class 1, District 4 Tournament with a 14-6 victory over Norwood. Dora improves to 20-2 on the season, and their sectional game will be Monday against the winner of Wednesday’s District 3 title game between Eminence and South Iron.

Hollister fell one win short of a state tournament berth. The Tigers were doubled up by Springfield Catholic 6-3 in the final of the Class 4, District 11 Tournament. Hollister finishes the year with a mark of 17-10.

Forsyth came up just short of the championship of the Class 3, District 12 Tournament at Clever. The Panthers were edged out by the host Blue Jays in the title game. Forsyth wraps up the season at 8-15.

Ava pulled off an upset in the semifinals of the Class 3, District 11 Tournament at Fair Grove. The Bears needed an extra inning, but they were able to eliminate the host and top-seeded Eagles 4-1. Ava improves to 16-5 on the season.
