Jeff Kravitz/FilmMagicRush frontman Geddy Lee says he has mixed feelings about his band’s retirement that followed the end of its 40th anniversary tour in August 2015.
“I don’t miss leaving [my family to go tour],” the 65-year-old Rock & Roll Hall of Famer tells the Toronto Sun. “But I miss those three hours on stage with my buddies. That, especially in the last 10 years of touring, was so much fun and so gratifying.”
Lee says he sees Rush guitarist Alex Lifeson “quite a lot” and that he and Alex visit drummer Neal Peart “quite often,” but with Peart insisting he’s happily retired, Geddy doesn’t “see the three of us ever really” recording or touring together again.
Having said that, Lee believes it’s possible that he and Lifeson “would do something down the road,” while pointing out that Alex currently is enjoying contributing to other artists’ projects.
As for Lee, he is busy promoting his new coffee-table book, Geddy Lee’s Big Beautiful Book of Bass. He kicks off a Canadian promotional tour with a signing appearance tonight at Bolen Books in Victoria, British Columbia. On Saturday afternoon, Geddy will take part in a Q&A and signing session at the National Music Centre in Calgary, Alberta, in advance of the official opening this Sunday of an exhibit of his bass guitars inspired by the book.
Meanwhile, Lee tells the Toronto Sun that he has been working on musical ideas at his home studio and expects to focus more on creating new songs by next spring after he wraps up promoting the book.
