The performance helped celebrate the release Friday of Beach Boys frontman Mike Love‘s new cover version of “Rockaway Beach,” which will appear on his just-announced forthcoming solo album, 12 Sides of Summer, due out July 19. You can check out a professionally shot video of the performance now on Love’s YouTube channel.
As previously reported, Love’s studio version of “Rockaway Beach” is available now as a digital single and via streaming services, and you also can listen to it on YouTube.
12 Sides of Summer also will feature covers of The Beatles‘ “Here Comes the Sun,” The Dave Clark Five‘s “Over and Over and Over Again,” ABBA‘s “On and On and On,” Eddie Cochran‘s “Summertime Blues,” Antonio Carlos Jobim‘s “Girl from Ipanema” and the 1964 Rivieras hit “California Sun,” which The Ramones also recorded. In addition, the album will include updated renditions of The Beach Boys’ “Surfin,” “Surfin’ Safari” and “It’s Ok,” the latter of which features previous Love collaborators Hanson.
The Beach Boys kick off a European summer tour on June 14 in Bizkaia, Spain, and are scheduled to return to North America for more concerts starting with a July 25 show in Asheville, North Carolina. Check out the band’s full itinerary at TheBeachBoys.com.
