Newton County authorities have arrested a couple from Missouri after they were spotted traveling in the Compton area in a vehicle reported stolen in mid-April.
According to the probable cause affidavit filed Wednesday, the driver of the vehicle was identified as 47-year-old Jason Carlisle of Hollister and his passenger was 29-year-old Jessica Durden. Online jail records indicate Durden is from Reeds Spring.
Both Carlisle and Durden had outstanding warrants out of Missouri.
A search of the vehicle allegedly revealed three glass pipes commonly used in the consumption of methamphetamine in Durden’s purse.
In an interview with Durden, she reportedly told law enforcement she and Carlisle reside together. She said on the date of what was termed the “original theft,” she remained at home while Carlisle traveled to Arkansas with a male friend. They allegedly returned with a different vehicle that she never saw. She claimed Carlisle sold the vehicle in Reeds Spring.
When questioned about the items in the car in which Durden and Carlisle were traveling in when apprehended in Newton County, the Missouri woman allegedly said the couple had been given permission to get the items. She also allegedly admitted to giving the Newton County deputy a factitious name because she was aware of her warrant out of Missouri.
Since the arrest, authorities have been contacted by the owner of the items found in the stolen vehicle. The man told authorities he knew the Missouri couple and said they had been at his property. He provided a list of items reportedly stolen that included two air conditioning units.
Durden has been charged with a felony count of possession of drug paraphernalia, along with misdemeanor counts of theft by receiving and obstruction of governmental operations.
Online jail records show Carlisle is being held on two theft charges and a hold for another agency, as well as bonds of $10,000 for the couple.
