Boone County beefing up courthouse security with state grant dollars

Boone County officials are making security upgrades at the county courthouse.

KARK reports the county is utilizing funds from a state grant to obtain extra security cameras and are planning to add about 10 around the outside walls.

Boone County Judge Robert Hathaway says the historic courthouse is more than 100 years old. Because of that, it's difficult to make any changes to the actual building.

Fred Woehl, quorum court road and bridge committee chairperson, says for the safety and security of everybody using the courthouse and everybody working there, officials need to ensure all t's are crossed and all i's are dotted.

Boone County leaders say nothing dangerous has happened at the courthouse but they don't want to take any chances.

Officials in Boone County are also looking into adding a security guard who would be shared between the courthouse and the federal building.
