Izard County authorities have arrested two men following an attempt to stop a vehicle stretching about a mile and ending in the county jail where a baggie fell to the floor during a search of a suspect.

According to the probable cause affidavit, a sheriff’s deputy attempted a traffic stop on State Highway 223 in Calico Rock July 14. However, the truck the deputy attempted to stop continued north for about a mile, and he observed an object being tossed out the window of the vehicle by a passenger.

The deputy eventually made contact with the driver, 47-year-old Edwin Teegarden, and his passenger, 42-year-old Travis Owens. Their addresses were not provided in online court documents.

Teegarden reportedly is on active probation with a search waiver on file. During the search of the vehicle, baggies containing a crystalline substance and a green vegetable material were located, along with drug paraphernalia.

A second deputy arriving at the scene retrieved a glass smoking device with heavy burnt white residue allegedly tossed from the vehicle while it was being pursued.

At the Izard County Detention Center, a baggie containing a green vegetable material was allegedly found on Owens’ person. Owens reportedly repeatedly denied having any further illegal substances on his person. However, while he was being searched, he kicked his leg out and a baggie containing a green vegetable material fell to the floor. It was later identified as marijuana. The crystalline substance found in the vehicle field tested positive for methamphetamine, as did the glass smoking device.

Both suspects were charged with multiple felony and misdemeanor drug-related charges.

Teegarden is in the Izard County jail on a no bond hold until his court appearance, while Owens’ bond was set at $20,000.
