A new documentary about late rock ‘n’ roll pioneer Chuck Berry, featuring interviews with Aerosmith‘s Joe Perry, Alice Cooper, Little Steven Van Zandt and other stars, will get its world premiere at the 50th annual Nashville Film Festival, taking place October 3-12 in the Tennessee music mecca.
The film, simply titled Chuck Berry, was directed by John Brewer, whose previous movies include B.B. King: The Life of Riley and Beside Bowie: The Mick Ronson Story. The documentary was sanctioned by the Berry family, who gave the filmmaker exclusive access to Chuck’s archives. Berry’s wife, Themetta, and son Charles also will appear in the flick.
Nashville Film Festival organizers revealed several other music documentaries that will be shown at the event, including Born into the Gig, a film that profiles the children of famous artists who also have become professional musicians. The movie, which also will get its world premiere at the festival, features Stephen Stills‘ son, Chris; Bob Marley‘s grandson, Skip; Bill Withers‘ daughter, Kori; and Ben and Sally Taylor, the children of James Taylor and Carly Simon.
“The Nashville Film Festival is celebrating an incredible 50 year milestone by honoring the history of the festival while pointing the organization to a future of expanded opportunities for filmmakers worldwide and for the amazing arts community here in Tennessee,” says the event’s executive director, Jason Padgitt. “There are so many great stories to share at this year’s festival and we’re very excited about all the great films and events planned for this historic event.”
