ABC/Craig SjodinQueen + Adam Lambert are rocking their way across North America this summer on their Rhapsody tour, but the band has revealed that on September 28, they’ll be playing a special show at a famous, as-yet-unannounced location.
A teaser video has been posted on Queen’s social media sites and guitarist Brian May‘s Instagram page showing footage of the group and Lambert performing live. There’s also a message that reads, “Queen + Adam Lambert are coming to rock one of the world’s most iconic landmarks,” then the date “09.28.19” and the hashtag “#POWERTHEMOVEMENT.”
May’s Instagram post includes a note that apparently gives some insight into the mystery event. It reads, “Announcement!!! More details soon. This is a big one. What is it? Think: Solving Earth’s most urgent problems. Think: ‘COULD THERE BE A 21st CENTURY #LiveAid?'”
In an interview this past May with U.K. newspaper The Daily Mirror, Brian said Queen would be interested in taking part in a Live Aid-style concert focused on the issue of climate change, noting that it would have to feature popular young artists and be done on a massive scale to be effective.
“It probably would take the younger generation to take that bull by the horns,” he maintained. “We’d help in any way we can, but I think that’s what it would require.”
Queen + Adam Lambert continue the North American leg of their Rhapsody tour on Tuesday in Washington, D.C. The trek winds down on August 23 in Charlotte, North Carolina.
