A Fulton County man, 26-year-old Austin Smith of Cherokee Village, has been arrested and charged in connection with an alleged assault incident that left the female victim needing stitches to close a head wound.

According to the probable cause affidavit filed Thursday, law enforcement responded to an incident along Canada Drive in Cherokee Village in May after neighbors called advising they could hear screaming from inside the residence.

The victim met the patrolman at the door, with blood on her head, neck and legs.

She advised Smith had allegedly held her down, choking and hitting her. Blood was pooled in the floor of the bedroom where the assault reportedly occurred.

The woman said Smith was mad because she forgot to bring home supper.

The victim had a black eye, swollen nose, two large lacerations on her head and marks around her neck indicating she had been grabbed.

Emergency medical personnel arrived, advising the head lacerations needed stitches. The woman was told if she did not return with them, she needed to seek medical attention herself at the hospital.

Smith was charged with a felony count of aggravated assault on a family or household member. His bond was set at $5,000, and he is to have no contact with the victim.
