School buses are hitting the roads for the first day of the academic year in seven local districts on Wednesday.

Students are returning to the classrooms in Mountain Home, Cotter, Norfork, Yellville-Summit, Viola, Calico Rock and Ozark Mountain.

Mountain Home joined a growing number of districts this year providing school supplies for all students.

Families will still need to provide personal supplies such as backpacks and lunch boxes, but essential school supplies will be provided.

The Ozark County Times reports the Thornfield School District, with help from the community, is providing all school supplies needed by its students for the 2019-2020 school year. Principal Melissa Campbell says the only supplies not provided are PE shoes and backpacks. Thornfield’s school year starts Friday.

KYTV/KSPR reports students in Harrison, like those in Mountain Home, will have their supplies on their desks on the first day of school.

The Springfield television stations also report students in the Ozark Mountain School District will be receiving breakfast and lunch free of charge this year. The district covers schools in Bruno-Pyatt, St. Joe and Western Grove.
