Graham Nash launches a fall North American tour in late September that will include more than 20 dates. Four of those dates will be special shows featuring his first two solo albums — 1971’s Songs for Beginners and 1974’s Wild Tales — performed in their entirety.
The full-albums concerts are scheduled for September 25 in South Orange, New Jersey; September 27 in New York City; September 28 in Albany, New York; and September 29 in Boston. Nash tells ABC Radio he’s “really looking forward to” the shows, which will feature songs he’s “never played” live before.
At Nash’s regular solo concerts, he’s usually accompanied by just two musicians — guitarist Shane Fontayne and keyboardist Todd Caldwell — but he says the special shows will feature an expanded backing band, including Andy Hess, a former member of The Black Crowes and Gov’t Mule, on bass.
As for whether he’d consider doing a whole tour of full album shows, Nash points out that touring with a large band can be “quite expensive,” but he’ll do it “if it’s financially feasible.” However, he says he may record one or more of the performances for a live album and concert video, so fans who couldn’t make those shows can enjoy it.
As for his regular solo concerts, Graham says they’ll feature a rotating list of songs from his famous groups and his solo career — and maybe some brand-new tunes.
“I’ve written so many bloody songs that the set list can kind of change every night,” he declares. “It’s always a very interesting dance.”
