A Stone County man, 39-year-old Danny Coleman Cox Jr. of Mountain View, has been arrested and charged in connection with a pickup truck and tools reported stolen from a garage in Big Flat last January.

According to the probable cause affidavit, the victim told a Baxter County Sheriff’s investigator someone entered his garage and took the truck, as well as some hand tools.

The truck was located less than a week later by a member of the Stone County Sheriff’s Office.

The Stone County officer interviewed suspects at a residence where the vehicle was located, but no one claimed to know how the truck got to the location.

In mid-March, an engine code reader was found during a home visit in Stone County. The suspect arrested in the home visit told law enforcement Cox had given him the reader, and it had come from the victim’s shop. The suspect said Cox was previously married to the victim’s daughter.

With the evidence, the Baxter County investigator traveled to the suspect’s home, where he resides with his mother. The woman reportedly said Cox arrived at the residence driving the stolen truck.

The woman allegedly identified seat and dash pieces replaced in the stolen truck as having come from her vehicle that is no longer running. She reportedly told law enforcement Cox was the one who changed out the seat.

Cox was booked into the Baxter County Detention Center Monday afternoon and released later in the evening, after posting a $10,000 bond.

He is charged with felony counts of theft of property and commercial burglary.
