A West Plains teen succumbed to his injuries four days after a one-vehicle accident in Oregon County. Eighteen-year-old Colten Smith was pronounced dead Wednesday night at Cox Medical Center South in Springfield.
According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol, Smith was traveling on Missouri Route M the night of Oct. 12. He was approximately 5 miles north of Koshkonong when his pickup truck traveled off the left side of the roadway and struck a tree. Smith, who was not wearing a seatbelt, was ejected from the truck.
Smith’s death is the 36th fatality reported by Troop G this year compared to 34 at the same time 2018. His truck was totaled in the 9:20 p.m. accident.
