Izard County authorities have arrested a former resident of Mount Pleasant now residing in Maine and charged him with one count of rape, a Class Y felony, the most serious class of crime in Arkansas not punishable by death.According to a probable cause affidavit filed Wednesday, 21-year-old Brandon White is charged in connection with an incident he allegedly maintains happened when he was 14 and the victim was 11.

Investigators with the Izard County Sheriff’s Office initiated the case after receiving notification from the Arkansas State Police Crimes Against Children Division.

Originally, the allegation was reported the now-17-year-old victim had been sexually molested by her stepfather.

Both the victim and her mother told investigators there was a “big misunderstanding.” Instead, they identified White as the offender.

While the victim alleges multiple incidents with White, the former Izard County resident allegedly maintains there was only a single encounter.

White was taken into custody Wednesday, with his bond set at $50,000.
