3-way race develops on first day of filing for local House seat

A three-way race for State Representative for House District 100 developed on the opening day of the filing period Monday.

Online information from the Arkansas Secretary of State’s office indicates Republican incumbent Nelda Speaks is being challenged by Paige Dillard Evans and Kevin Vornheder, all of Mountain Home. Evans filed as a Republican and Vornheder as a Libertarian.

Elsewhere in North Central Arkansas, Republican incumbents Jack Fortner of Yellville filed for House District 99, Ron McNair of Alpena for House District 98, John Payton of Wilburn for House District 64, Michelle Gray of Melbourne for House District 62 and Marsh Davis of Cherokee Village for House District 61.

In nonpartisan races, incumbent Judge Jason Duffy of Yellville filed for District 14 in the State District Court, Judge Larry Kissee of Ash Flat filed for the Fulton County District Court and Judge David E. Miller filed for the Izard County District Court.

The filing period for political party candidates ends next Tuesday at noon, while the deadline for nonpartisan and school board races ends at 3 p.m.
