Over the next eight to 42 months, the Arkansas Department of Human Services will be working to reorganize a number of its county offices and create a new business processing center in the Mississippi River Delta. The Baxter County office in Mountain Home will be among the county offices to be realigned.

DHS Chief Communications and Community Engagement Officer Amy Webb says of all the changes being made by the department, Baxter County’s will be the most minimal.

Webb says the department is looking at having the Baxter County office realignment completed no later than June 2020.

Webb says the statewide process of realigning county offices began with DHS administrators taking a look at their geographic footprint. The department has counties with two offices, and they are no longer experiencing as much client traffic as in the past. Meanwhile, other county offices are tight on space and are experiencing a growth in their client base.

Webb says more importantly, the manner in which DHS is interacting with its clients has been evolving.

Webb adds while DHS will be able to save money with this process, the extra funds will be reinvested to ensure its clients’ needs are met. The department will also look at the manner in which its clients interact with DHS in the future.
