The ROTC at Mountain Home High School Career Academies will host its annual Freedom is Not Free veterans program on Thursday. The event will begin at 9 a.m. in Bomber Gymnasium.
All local veterans are invited to attend the program aimed at honoring their service. It’s also meant to teach high school students about the sacrifices made by the nation’s veterans for their country.
Veterans will be recognized and honored by students, faculty, community members and political officials during the event. The Mountain Home High School band will perform the “Star Spangled Banner” and other patriotic songs, and the high school choir will sing the service songs of each military branch.
The ROTC Honor Guard will demonstrate the proper technique of folding an American flag and explain what each fold represents. The American Legion Honor Guard will shoot the ceremonial volleys to represent the 21-gun salute. Guest dignitaries will also be present to show their support for veterans.
Veterans are encouraged to arrive by 8:45 to be seated in the designated area before students enter the gym. Veteran parking will be reserved around the Bomber plane in the main drive leading up to the high school campus.
