A Flippin man pled guilty to charges filed against him stemming from the theft of a pickup truck and was sentenced to three years in prison during a session of Baxter County Circuit Court Thursday.

Fifty-five-year-old John French Cox will also be required to pay victim restitution of almost $2,200.

In late August last year, an investigator with the Baxter County Sheriff’s Office received information a stolen vehicle was being operated in the Cotter/Gassville area. The pickup truck, which displayed Tennessee license plates, was reported to have originally been red, but had been hand-painted white.

Two sheriff’s office investigators saw a vehicle matching the description of the stolen truck on Harding Boulevard in Cotter. The truck pulled into a convenience store parking lot, and the investigators made contact with Cox who was driving and his passenger, Coltin Trey King, who listed addresses in Flippin. Yellville and Victoria, Mississippi.

According to the probable cause affidavit, the two men both stated they had “borrowed” the truck in Mississippi, but tripped up on naming the person who lent them the vehicle.

Cox was reported to have initially said they borrowed it from a person named “Dave” but changed that to “Jamie Murphy” after consulting with King.
The investigators also reported the steering column in the vehicle had been damaged in a way often seen in stolen vehicles.

King pled guilty to his charges in early December last year and was also given three years in prison.
