Filing period open for Missouri candidates




The filing period for candidates for the Missouri municipal elections slated for April 7 opened Tuesday, according to a report from the Ozark County Times.The municipal election covers openings on school, city and public boards. Candidates may file at the appropriate organization’s office. However, schools and offices will be closed during the holidays. Candidates are advised to call the school or municipal office where they plan to file to verify holiday closure dates.The filing period closes on Jan. 21. The deadline to register to vote in the election is March 20. The three-year positions held by Matthew Evans, Mike Scott and Tim Watlington are expiring, while Jonathan Belt will be leaving his two-year slot. Gainesville will see three three-year positions up for election, which are held by Jerry Kiger, Corey Hillhouse and Marti Warden. School office hours are 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Friday. The school will be closed Dec. 23-Jan. 3, Jan. 17 and Jan. 20. Call (417)679-4200 for more information.

At Gainesville, Mayor Gail Reich’s position, along with aldermen Rocky Sullivan, Lee Bowen and Lana Bushong, are on the ballot. Candidates may file at Gainesville City Hall on the northwest corner of the square during business hours (8 a.m. to noon and from 12:30 to 4:30 p.m. on weekdays).
